Supergirl TV Series Officially in Development

With Gotham, The Flash, Constantine and Arrow featured in a superhero-heavy lineup this fall, it comes to us as no surprise that a Supergirl TV series has come to question. Rumors have been circulating this week that DC Entertainment is developing a new TV series based on the infamous character Kara Zor-El – aka Supergirl – who is Superman’s cousin. While initially fans suspected producer Michael Green to be involved, it was later revealed that Greg Berlanti of Arrow and The Flash would be teaming up with Ali Adler of Chuck and No Ordinary Family to produce the Supergirl TV series.

“We’re just starting to work on it,” Berlanti said. “We haven’t gone to the networks yet, so. I’ll be happy, very excited to talk about it once we know where its home will be and that kind of stuff, but not at this moment.”

For many, this news is a breath of fresh air. The superhero world and its female characters have had a complicated relationship at best. Though Marvel announced that a woman would be portraying Thor, the comic book publisher also came under fire for a recent alternative cover for a new Spider-Woman comic, which showed the superhero in a compromising position. Let’s just hope Supergirl is portrayed in a more positive light.

While it had been initially reported that The CW had passed on the series, we now know that that is no longer the case. Supergirl may just be appearing alongside Oliver Queen and Barry Allen on the network, if fans get their way.
