Guardians of the Galaxy Tops Weekend Box Office

Guardians of the Galaxy

Word of Guardians of the Galaxy spread like wildfire this weekend. Marvel Studios’ newest hit, directed by James Gunn, smashed August box office records and earned the film an A+ in the hearts of many. The Thursday night opening previews amounted to $11.2 million, exceeding any other movie this year – including Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which grossed $10.2 mil on preview night. Additionally, Guardians reached $94 mil after opening weekend, barely missing Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s record of highest grossing movie of the year at $95 mil. While (barely) not the highest grossing movie of the year, the fantasy adventure still earns the title of having the best August opening to date.

Guardians of the Galaxy features the talents of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. The film earned 92% positive ratings among critics, with a 96% positive rating among the notoriously picky fans at Rotten Tomatoes. This action packed superhero flick remains a fan favorite, with many seeing the film more than once in theaters.
