What Does the Fantastic Beasts Logo Reveal About the Upcoming Harry Potter Spin-Off Film?

The upcoming Harry Potter spinoff film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is under way, with a cast consisting of the likes of Colin Farrell and Ron Perlman.

Now we have one more piece of the puzzle, thanks to Pottermore: the logo.

Set in the Roaring Twenties, the film is based on the 2001 book J.K. Rowling wrote under the pseudonym Newt Scamander as Harry’s textbook for his class Care of Magical Creatures, and follows Newt (Eddie Redmayne) as he travels to document magical creatures. Rowling is also penning the script for the film.

The logo definitely feeds off the adventurous, and mystical, premise of the film. The design team at Warner Bros. also hopes it has the same iconic feeling as the original Harry Potter film logo:

“If you think of Harry Potter, that logo instantly comes into your mind: the lightning bolt ‘P’ and the shape of the words. So we wanted this one to feel like it was born of that same world. We were trying to come up with something that drafted similarly off that iconography but in a new way. In a Fantastic Beasts way.”

They also confirmed that several beasts make an appearance in this logo, even if it’s only in small ways like claws or ribs.

As for which beasts will appear in the film, there’s not much news on that front, but the designers did say the beast that inspired the ‘S’ will show up in the film. But what beast is that? Basilisk first comes to mind, but the top of the ‘S’ could be the head of a dragon, too.

The possibilities are endless! Which is one of the most exciting aspects of this film, and why I’m so thrilled to be getting more Harry Potter.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, directed by David Yates and starring Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Colin Farrell, and Ron Perlman is set to hit theaters on November 18, 2016.

What do you think of the logo? Which beasts do you think will make an appearance in the film? Sound off in the comments!
