Marvel Studios President Says Civil War Will Conclude the Captain America Trilogy

Marvel is gearing up for Phase 3 with big changes, including new characters (Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther) and, now it would seem, the end of Captain America.

Okay, okay, I’m being a little hyperbolic.

But Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did tell MTV that Captain America: Civil War is the end of the First Avenger’s trilogy:

“It’s very much, in a certain way, the completion of a Captain America trilogy. I think one day you’ll look back and watch — ’Captain America: The First Avenger,’ ’Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ and ’Captain America: Civil War’ — and it’ll be one of the most unique and different trilogies ever around a single character.”

Hold on, does that mean Cap might actually die in Civil War? For real?

We know that actor Chris Evans will be in Infinity War (when his contract is set to end) but that could be in a variety of ways, such as flashback or conjured up via one of the Infinity Stones, which would still allow him to die in his next outing.

The main three actors involved in this – Evans, Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), and Anthony Mackie (Falcon) – have been coy about Cap dying and either of the latter two taking up the mantle.

It’s no surprise, really. If Cap does die, Marvel doesn’t want to give it away. And maybe he won’t die. The conclusion to a trilogy doesn’t mean there’s no more story left to tell at all.

Still, it’s an interesting way to describe the movie and definitely makes me think.

Feige also mentions that, despite the deluge of characters, Civil War is “very much a sequel to Winter Solider.

Phew. That’s honestly been one of my biggest concerns. Winter Soldier is, by far, the best film in the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it set up a compelling story. While my fears haven’t completely vanished, I am a little more hopeful that Civil War won’t lose sight of that, especially with the Russo brothers at the helm.

Do you think Cap will die at the end of Civil War? How do you want to see his trilogy end? Let us know in the comments!
