Marvel’s The Inhumans Coming to IMAX and ABC

Marvel and ABC announced recently that a new TV series would be debuting next Fall on ABC. The revelation as to what the series would be centered around was a bit of a shocker. The Inhumans are set to get their own television series that won’t be a spin-off of the current Marvel Series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and isn’t intended to be a reworking of the Marvel Studios film that was planned but then taken off of the schedule.

Inhumans were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in December of 1965. They are a race of super-humans who have lived in isolation in a hidden city called Attilan on a small remote island. The comic book series focused primarily on the Inhuman Royal Family led by Black Bolt. The television series will be centered on this same set of characters, though it is uncertain at this time which members of the Royal Family will be featured. The series itself will debut in IMAX theaters for two weeks, being shot fully in the IMAX format for the first two episodes. After that, the show will premiere on ABC as a weekly series in fall of 2017.

Inhumans were introduced in season two of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and have played a prominent role in the television series ever since, being that one of the central characters – Daisy – is an Inhuman. Currently, with the Sokovia Accords (as seen in Captain America: Civil War) in full enforcement, Inhumans are seen as a danger to mankind. It remains to be seen how things will be different, if at all, for the Royal Family when they make their debut.

2017 is already a Marvel filled year with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok coming to the big screen and Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher (possibly) coming to Netflix as well. Needless to say, with the addition of Inhumans to an already heavily filled comic book slate of shows and films, all geeks should be pleased.
