I mentioned this morning that there was actual news to come out of New York Comic Con this weekend (other than the awesome Hulkbuster cosplay) and now we have our first look at one of the biggest news stories: a teaser trailer for Daredevil Season 2!
The trailer, which you can watch below, may only be 30 seconds long, but it already has me tingling with excitement.
We get to see some favorite characters from the first hit season – Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) – but most excitingly, get ready to see Jon Bernthal as Punisher and Elodie Yung as Elektra.
Matt continues to struggle with Catholic guilt, but Father Lantom wisely tells him: “Guilt can be a good thing.”
The trailer is no happy place – nothing seems to be going well for any of these characters. Yet seeing Matt’s new costume, Elektra wrapping a red mask around her face, and Punisher walking down a corridor with a gun as his voiceover says “bang,” only makes me more eager to get deeper into the grimy setting of Hell’s Kitchen.
Indeed, that’s how one of the new showrunners, Doug Petrie, explained the season at NYCC:
“We love two things: one of them is Matt Murdock, and the other is the world that Matt Murdock navigates,. Last year, Steven [DeKnight] and Drew [Goddard] did a great job of introducing that world… This year, we get to test that world, take it further, [make it] darker, more emotional.”
Bring. It. On.
Bernthal also reassured the fans when he acknowledged the weight of playing someone like Punisher. “I know how important this character is to you guys, and how important this show is to you guys,” he commented. “I look at this as a huge honor, a huge responsibility… I’m gonna give everything that I have.”
It seems both Elektra and Punisher will have big roles to play but exactly how is still unknown.
Daredevil returns to Netflix in 2016.
