Guardians of the Galaxy’s Collector Might Become the Next Star Wars Villain

All right, let’s recap the upcoming Star Wars movies: we have The Force Awakens this December, the first Anthology film Rogue One next December, Episode VIII in May 2017, the second Anthology film about Han Solo in May 2018, Episode IX in 2019, and the third Anthology film in 2020.

You have to hand it to Lucasfilm and Disney for their dedication. If it pays off, we’re in for a great six years. All films are being worked on and planned, with bits of information being released and rumored about each one seemingly every week.

This week? A new report about the villain for Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson. According to The Wrap, an offer has been made to Benicio del Toro for the role.

Del Toro, already part of the Disney family with his role as The Collector in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, has an impressive pedigree under his belt and an Oscar for his role in Traffic. He would be a great addition to the universe and bring a level of depth to the unknown villain.

Then the question becomes: which villain? Don’t forget, he’s being considered for Episode VIII and not an Anthology film, so there will be continuity from The Force Awakens where we already have villains Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson, who I’m still hoping to be a twist re: alliances).

The possibilities are endless but it’s always fun to theorize until we get confirmation.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, is set to come out May 26, 2017.

Do you think Benicio del Toro would make a good Star Wars villain? What kind of villain would you want to see him play? Share your ideas in the comments below!
