Transformers Movies in Chronological Order

Transformers One

Prequel Transformers One is a long-awaited origin story focusing on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron. It takes place on Cybertron, home to both the Autobots and Decepticons, and the voice cast stars heavy-hitters Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jon Hamm. C’mon, who doesn’t want to find out how Prime and Megatron transitioned from being best friends to dire enemies? We sure do! It’s a 2024 animated – not a live-action – film that’s definitely worthy of your attention if you’re into all things Transformers. Check it out!

Bumblebee

Hitting the big screen in 2018, Bumblebee stars one of the most popular Transformers in the entire franchise. In the film, Autobot scout B-127 arrives on Earth on a critical mission from Autobot leader Optimus Prime to set up a base for the Autobots’ evacuation of their home planet, Cybertron. With his Earthling ally “Charlie” Watson, who nicknames him Bumblebee, Bee seeks to defend Earth from the Decepticon onslaught. Naturally, things get exciting and keep moviegoers glued to their seats!

Rise of the Beasts

What beasts? Transformers beasts! Influenced by the Beast Wars comic storyline, this thrilling 2023 movie comes late in the film timeline but early in the Transformers saga. A prequel to the first 2007 film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has planet-eating dark god Unicron attacking the Maximals, an advanced race of Cybertronians with beast modes, to obtain the Transwarp Key that opens portals through space and time. The Autobots join the Maximals in a fight for Earth, and Bumblebee turns the tide of the battle. Sound exciting? It is!

Transformers

The film that started it all for many of us, 2007’s Transformers brought the giant robot craze from Asia to the rest of the world. Teenager Sam Witwicky gets caught up in a war between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons, two factions of alien robots that can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery, such as vehicles. Villains Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave are introduced to a spellbound audience clamoring for more and more Transformers!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

While it’s the second in the series of Transformers movies, 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen is number 5 in the saga’s storyline. Following the defeat of the original Decepticon, “The Fallen,” the remaining Decepticons use an AllSpark shard to resurrect Megatron, who’s sent by this master to capture Sam Witwicky and kill Optimus. The action and excitement get intense as Bumblebee, Jetfire, and other Autobots join in and the battle rages. How does it all end? You’ll have to watch the film to find out!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

2011 saw the release of another blockbuster movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a sequel in both the film series and storyline. In an action-packed sequence of events beginning with the 1960 crash of the Cybertronian Ark spacecraft on the moon, viewers cling to their popcorn and seats as they follow Sam Witwicky while he, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and other Autobots race to save Earth and Sam’s girlfriend Carly from traitor Sentinel Prime, Megatron, and those pesky Decepticons. It’s great fun you don’t want to miss.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

The next sequel is also next in the chronology. Transformers: Age of Extinction  from 2014 is another nailbiter diehard fans don’t want to ignore. The film introduces a new cast of humans and Transformers, such as the Dinobots. Just imagine: Following the events of  Dark of the Moon, struggling inventor and single father Cade Yeager discovers a truck that’s also a Transformer, placing himself and his daughter in the throes of events that threaten the extinction of Mankind! When humanity allies with a bounty hunter in pursuit of Optimus Prime, the Autobots – Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, Crosshairs, and others – turn to this human mechanic and his family for help. Count us in!
