Second Trailer for The Good Dinosaur Will Make You Teary So Thanks, Pixar

Pixar’s newest movie, The Good Dinosaur, rewrites history so an asteroid never collided with earth and killed off the dinosaurs.

In this second official trailer, we get a better sense of the story – oh yeah, and a parent dies.

Yup, we’re going back to that trope, boys and girls, so get out your tissues.

The film follows Arlo (Raymond Ochoa), a young Apatosaurus, who loses his father (or at least is separated from him, please let it be this one, don’t do this to me again, Pixar) and now must navigate the world on his own. He eventually comes to meet Spot (Jack Bright), a young human caveboy, and the two become inseparable friends.

The most striking thing about this is, unsurprisingly, the animation. While the characters are clearly CGI, the backgrounds and world they inhabit look incredibly real. It makes for a stunning composition that I can only imagine will be breathtaking on the big screen.

However, the story also looks to be top-notch if the fact that I’m getting teary-eyed from the trailer alone is anything to go by. But barring some outliers, when are Pixar stories not some of the best in Hollywood?

One of the great things this film already seems to do is make a family of Tyrannosauruses friends of Arlo and Spot, rather than villains.

In a coming-of-age story that’s about friendship, loss, bravery, and other important themes that Pixar is always so good at exploring, I’m looking forward to this movie a lot.

The Good Dinosaur is directed by Peter Sohn, whose only previous directing credit is Partly Cloudy, the Pixar short. It’s set to come out on November 25th.
