This week, Solo: A Star Wars Story stayed number one at the box office, though the newly released Ocean’s 8 brought in an impressive $4 million from Thursday night’s previews alone. It’s a little too early to say for sure, but it looks like the all-female cast has what it takes to grift their way to box office gold.
With tons of new trailers and pop culture updates this week’s geek headlines are packed.
New Look for Bumblebee
Our favorite “little” yellow hero is back in his very own Transformers movie. While teaser photos have been popping up randomly over the last few months, this week saw the release of the first official trailer for Bumblebee. Starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena (yes, that John Cena). This origin story looks like it’s going to be way more than meets the eye. With Michael Bay bowing out and Travis Knight taking over directorial duties, it’ll be interesting to see how the film merges the newer Bay designs with the classic G1 attitude. Did anyone else see that awesome Starscream cameo?
Let’s Get into the Spider-Verse
This week also saw the release of the highly anticipated new Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is a fully computer-animated adventure that offers a fresh take on the venerable Marvel franchise. Ironically, Hailee Steinfeld’s also starring in this film, along with Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, and a host of other great voice actors. With glowing effects, fluid animation, and tons of cool cameos, December really can’t come soon enough.
Oodles and Oodles of Funko Fun
This was also a great week for product releases. From Harry and Meghan to Queen Elizabeth, and a handful of new American Gods Pop!s, there are tons of new Funko releases coming down the pipeline, so make sure you take a look! Just check out how adorable (and…scary?) this Happy Frog looks.
