Geek Headlines: New Marvel Movie, G.I. Joe Spinoff, Star Wars Celebration, and More

Deadpool 2 opened this week, and the R-rated Marvel movie is already breaking records. With an estimated $18.6 million from Thursday previews alone, it’ll be interesting to see whether Deadpool and friends have the power to wrestle the number one spot from Infinity War. Either way, it looks like Josh Brolin’s still sitting at the top. Not bad for a Goonie.

We’ve got a bunch of new updates to cover, so let’s cut the chit-chat and dive right in.

Marvel Moves Forward with the Eternals Movie

Well, folks, it’s official: Marvel has confirmed a new writing team to pen The Eternals script. Screenwriting duo Matthew and Ryan Firpo, who shot to fame last year with their acclaimed Ruin script, have been tapped to translate Jack Kirby’s epic comic to the big screen. No screenshots yet, but with the same team behind Infinity War attached, this is one movie to keep an eye on.

Hot off the heels of the venerable Transformers franchise, Hasbro and Paramount have announced they’re teaming up to work on a new G.I. Joe spinoff. Centered around the deadly ninja assassin Snake Eyes, details are still forthcoming, but with a handful of A-list producers attached to the project, it definitely looks promising. Batwoman Is Teaming Up With Arrow

Big things are happening for Batwoman. It looks like your favorite feline superhero will be joining CW’s Arrow series this winter. Yup, Gotham City, and New York are finally crossing paths. In a public statement made earlier this week, CW President Mark Pedowitz said, “We are adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse. This will be another full-throttled, action-packed event.” If you haven’t been watching Arrow, you’ve been missing out.
