Geek Headlines: Avengers: Infinity War Release Date and Products, ECCC, and More!

It’s Friday and it has been a week full of news not just in the entertainment world but in the collectible world as well! Thankfully, we’re here to fill you in on all the details in a nicely packaged gift that is… our week in geek headlines!

Marvel Manipulates Time for Avengers: Infinity War

Perhaps the biggest news this week was the announcement that Marvel would be releasing Avengers: Infinity War an entire week early. The studio had originally set the release date for May 4th but announced this week that it would now come out on April 27th. There are a lot of reasons for the change in the release date but for Marvel fans, who cares? Let us all rejoice in the seven less days of waiting for this massive movie event.

Sticking with the Marvel Universe, Captain Marvel writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet stated in an interview that the first female-led MCU film will be more of an Action Comedy film than Sci-Fi. She’d go on to say, “I’m hoping that sassy, funny superhero [in the film] is something people haven’t seen before and that they’re going to be excited to see in Carol Danvers. A lot of the great Captain Marvel comic books really broke ground with Carol Danvers’ voice, and that’s something we want to continue with the movie.” Some casting news also came from the Captain Marvel camp as Gemma Chan will join the cast as the Kree spy and villain Minn-Erva aka Doctor Minerva.

Wonder Woman 2 Villain

As production is getting underway for next year’s sequel to the wildly successful DC film Wonder Woman, news of the plot, and casting is sure to be coming sooner than later… like now-ish? We already know the story will take place during the ’80s and have a Cold War narrative. We now know that the main antagonist will likely be Cheetah. Reports state that the studio is in talks with Kristen Wiig to take on the role. Will Wiig bring a comedic side to the villain?  We will have to wait for Wonder Woman 2, which is set for a November 1, 2019, release date, to find out.

Ralph Is Gonna Wreck It

This week we got our very first look at the Wreck-It Ralph sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. The first trailer dropped and it gave fans a look at Ralph and his partner in crime Vanellope von Schweetz. The pair finds their way onto the internet from their home in the arcade. The trailer didn’t give anything away in form of the plot or story or the bevy of iconic characters that Ralph and Vanellope are sure to collide with on the net. The video game character cameos in the first film were a great touch, but it was the comedy and the emotional storytelling that made it a success and it should be a fun ride for part two when the movie releases November 21, 2018.

Avengers: Infinity War Takes Aim at Merchandising Domination

This week brought the release of several lines of Avengers: Infinity War action figures and collectibles to be released over the coming weeks before the film’s new release date. Hasbro gave the first look at their new Hero Vision line of figures that include all of our favorite Avengers, including Spidey in his Iron Spider suit, and Thanos himself. They also revealed their Infinity War Marvel Legends line which includes Bearded Captain America, Blonde Black Widow, Thor, Iron Man, Iron Spider, and a dozen others.

Not to be outdone Funko also announced a ton of new Infinity War figures to their Pop! line and their Dorbz line of figures, as well as their Mystery Minis sets. All are set to include the usual cast of Avengers but will debut a few new characters set to be featured in the film like Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, and Corvus Glaive.
