Walt Disney Pictures Set for Monster Box Office Year

We already know that Disney owns some of the largest franchise properties in the cinematic universe. With the success of Pixar films, Pirates of the Caribbean films, Marvel films, andStar Wars films, it’s no surprise that they will do extremely well at the box office. We’ve documented just how well they did last year with all of their releases, but for 2017 it’s a brand new ball game with some powerful hitters come to the plate.

This year we’ll see the release of multiple mega blockbuster films coming from the Disney brand. Beauty and the Beast will make its live action debut and the trailers alone have created a huge buzz surrounding the film. While the first trailer for Pixar’s Cars 3 was rather grim and dark, it will almost certainly bring families to the theater to see the third installment. The Pirates franchise will release its next film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, this year and we all know how popular Captain Jack Sparrow is to the world. The franchise itself is the eleventh highest-grossing film series of all time.

You can guarantee the Marvel films will be successful at the ticket booth, but this year is on another level. We’ll see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 following up the major success of the first film, but Thor: Ragnarok is also coming out later in the year. While the Thor films haven been huge hits, this movie sees the inclusion of Hulk and an enormous cast of incredible actors entering the MCU. Lest we forget, Spider-Man gets his first solo film since being introduced to the MCU. Spider-Man: Homecoming is a joint effort from both Sony and Marvel Studios, but you can bet some of that cash is going back to Marvel and will count towards their year-end totals.

All of these movies we’ve already covered and I haven’t even gotten to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which will close out the year for Disney. Make no mistake, other studies are going to have to push pretty hard to come close to the numbers that Disney will be creating for 2017, but it can be done. With the resurgence to the Jurassic Park franchise, the Fast and Furious franchise, the DC Comics Universe, and many others can attempt to get in Disney’s way of box office domination, but it will not be easy.

Which Disney movies are you most excited to see this year? Does any other movie studio even stand a chance to topple the mighty Disney empire? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
