Sony’s Upcoming Animated Spider-Man Film Features Miles Morales

Sony Pictures Animation made several announcements today about their upcoming slate of films being released. One of those films is the previously announced animated Spider-Man feature. Those in attendance of the studio’s press event were treated to a brief teaser that showed concept art of Spidey’s costume as well as some shots of Spider-Man chasing Prowler. The suit itself resembles the classic blue and red design, which is odd because they also announced that the film will not feature Peter Parker under the familiar mask. Miles Morales will be the star in this animated movie adaptation!

Morales is a fan favorite that people have been clamoring for a live-action adaptation in the films. Donald Glover has voiced the character in the Ultimate Spider-Man TV series. Marvel Studios has no plans (that they’re telling us at least) to introduce Miles into the MCU in the foreseeable future but never say never.

Morales was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli in August 2011. He essentially has the same powers as Peter Parker but can also camouflage himself to match his environment and has a venom sting that paralyzes almost anyone he touches. His costume is black and red instead of the traditional blue and red that Parker wears.

There’s been no casting news as of yet and the film doesn’t even have an official title but we do know that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) are set to write the script. Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey are set to direct the movie that will debut in theaters on December 21, 2018.
