8 Upcoming Fantasy Movies to Look Forward to in 2017

 

With a new year comes a whole new list of films to look forward to. For those of you that love the fantasy genre it looks like you’ll have a plethora to choose from! Here are just a few of the movies that you can start counting down to.

Underworld: Blood Wars (January 6)

This vampire and lycan (werewolf) fueled series has been going strong for 13 years now. Underworld: Blood Wars will be the sixth film in the Underworld franchise and will feature Selene (Kate Beckinsale) fighting to finally end the eternal war between the two monstrous species.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (January 27)

Another long running franchise, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be the sixth (and final film) in the 14-year long video game turned film series. This next installment will showcase Alice (Milla Jovovich) and the gang returning to where it all started: Raccoon City.

The Great Wall (February 17)

Just what exactly was the Great Wall of China trying to keep out? Apparently giant monsters! Matt Damon stars in this film helmed by visionary director Yimou Zhang.

Kong: Skull Island (March 10)

King Kong is back! In what looks to be a rousing adventure. Travel to an uncharted island in the Pacific and learn more about Kong’s untold origins. This film features an impressive cast made up of Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, and John Goodman.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (May 12)

The story of King Arthur has been told countless times through various different mediums. Now we can look forward to Guy Ritchie’s vision starring Charlie Hunnam as the fated king. The cast also includes Jude Law, Katie McGrath, and Eric Bana.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (May 26)

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me! Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns in the fifth installment of the franchise. He’s on the hunt for the trident of Poseidon, and there’s no telling just what kind of trouble he’ll get up to.

The Mummy (June 9)

Looking to recreate a Monster Mash, Universal Studios is rebooting their classic monster films. First up on the docket is The Mummy, in which they gender flipped the title character. Sofia Boutella will portray the ancient Princess Ahmanet and starring alongside her will be Tom Cruise.

The Dark Tower (July 28)

Stephen King’s much loved book series will finally be getting a film adaptation. Fans can look forward to this fantasy/horror/western mashup starring Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, and Katheryn Winnick.
