Keanu Reeves and friends brought down the house at NYCC in The Theater at Madison Square Garden when they showed the first trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2. Showing scenes of brutal violence done with ballet-like choreography, this second chapter looks to be every bit as exciting and enticing as the original. In an age dominated by movie franchises, this is a sequel that seems absolutely necessary, especially when the panel to discuss the film took the floor.
Reeves explained that he couldn’t wait to don the suit again and bring John Wick back to the big screen. It is exciting to see the assassin back in action, with as much style and grace as ever. But what’s even better is the look we get at the other stars, including the in indomitable Ian McShane, America’s sweetheart Ruby Rose, and hip hop artist Common.
Perhaps the most exciting new star of the film is Laurence Fishburn. Fishburn joins the film after he connect with Reeves and explained what a fan he was of the first John Wick film. Reeves was flattered, but instead of stopping there, he saw an opportunity. He and producer Chad Stahelski—who had also worked as a producer on The Matrix—were able to attract Fishburn to a role for the second chapter. This Matrix reunion will be welcome by fans of both franchises.
