It’s impossible to keep up with all the news released at San Diego Comic-Con. So in case you missed it, here are the trailers that dropped – all in one place!
American Gods
The first trailer for American Gods, based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name, was released by Starz. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) is one of the showrunners for the series debuting next year. Right off the bat the show promises to bend your sense of reasoning and disbelief, while touching on modern issues like capitalism, over-use of technology, and drugs.
Arrow
Oliver Queen is back in season 5 of Arrow – and after last year’s series-low ratings and the death of Laurel Lance as the Black Canary, it’ll be interesting to see how the show develops this year.
Blair Witch
Masquerading under a different name to throw off fans, this may be the The Blair Witch Project sequel people have wanted and deserved. Centered around four new people – one of whom is the brother of a victim from the original movie – the trailer shows the spooky, cut-together vibe that the first pioneered. It’s a blast from the past in the best way possible.
Daredevil
The season 3 teaser trailer to Daredevil doesn’t give much away – only that it’ll be coming soon.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Season 2’s trailer shows plenty of action from the upcoming season, including Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold – who died in the season 1. The time-traveling group will also see guest appearances from Arrow stars Stephen Amell and possibly Katie Cassidy, who signed a deal that lets her appear on Arrow, Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
From BBC America comes your new favorite murder-mystery show. Season 1 of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency shows plenty of laughs and is reminiscent of a super-quirky or eccentric Sherlock – Elijah Wood’s character even yells, “I’m not your f***ing Watson!” Sold.
Doctor Strange
Despite the controversy surrounding Doctor Strange and their casting choices, the second official trailer is no less impressive. Tilda Swinton is captivating as the Ancient One and Benedict Cumberbatch proves he can stand with the rest of Marvel’s biggest superheroes. It will be released November 4, 2016.
The Exorcist
Some things will always be scary – like demonic spirits plaguing suburban family’s lives. The psychological thriller will premiere this September on Fox.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Harry Potter’s world is back, and with the new movie being helmed by Eddie Redmayne, I’m not worried about whether or not it’ll be “good” – only about how many times I can see it in theaters. I’m hoping we can see more on the history of magic in the United States, and how the wizarding world in America compares with the one we know so well in England.
Fear the Walking Dead
Fear the Walking Dead hasn’t picked up the rabid fanbase that The Walking Dead has, but the trailer for the second half of season 2 is intriguing, impressive, and emotional. The characters are heading south to Mexico when the series returns August 21.
The Flash
The ending of season 2 left a lot of questions about the future of The Flash. When Barry Allan saved his mother, he also disturbed his life and timeline – and the series is going off into the Flashpoint story arc from DC Comics. My main question is how they’ll weave back into the “original” story line from the show, or if it’ll be retconned out by the end of the season.
Game of Thrones
Season 6 of Game of Thrones just wrapped, and its been reported that season 7 will debut later than usual, but HBO whipped up an in-production tease of season 7 for fans. The props are just as intricate and beautiful, and fans are already counting down to the premiere.
Gotham
Gotham is back with new adventures, new villains, and new questions. Season 3’s trailer shows a full list of villains, including a newly cast, adult version of Poison Ivy.
Justice League
As someone who wasn’t the biggest fan of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and who is on “Team Marvel,” I was surprised at how great the Justice League trailer looked. Jason Momoa as Aquaman is the perfect casting choice – he adds a toughness to a formerly picked on superhero, and his light-colored contacts are the right amount of spooky. From the clips seen of Ezra Miller as The Flash, it seems he’ll give a lot of comic relief to the film – and it already looks lighter than its predecessor.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Interesting and quirky camera work and storytelling are noticeable in the trailer for King Arthur. Charlie Hunnam looks strange without his leather cut, but he pulls off the medieval look well.
Kong: Skull Island
The lighthearted laughing seen at the beginning of the trailer is quickly cut short as helicopters are stricken down by thrown palm trees. A bloody hand-print, giant decrepit bones, and firefights set the scene for the return of King Kong.
Legion
New from Marvel comes the season 1 trailer of Legion. The highly-anticipated X-Men series (separate from another one currently in the works from Fox) focuses on David Haller, known as the mutant Legion, and his origin story.
The Lego Batman Movie
Everything is awesome in the world of Lego Batman. Will Arnett is hilarious as a childish, incompetent Batman playing to Michael Cera’s Robin.
The Man in the High Castle
Season 2 of Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle cuts together tense action and drum beats tapping, previewing the suspense that will remain on the show this year.
Marvel’s The Defenders
New to Netflix is Marvel’s The Defenders with a teaser trailer set to Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.” Strips of paper are pulled away, one of which says “Who is Danny Rand?” The Defenders will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
Marvel’s Iron Fist
Iron Fist is another Marvel series coming to Netflix. Between clips of what looks like a plane crash that happened when he was a child and an adult version of himself being strapped to a hospital bed against his will, this series looks both dark and intense. It’s set for release sometime in 2017.
Marvel’s Luke Cage
The familiar face from Jessica Jones is here with his own Netflix series set to premiere September 30 of this year. With a crazy-good soundtrack, Luke Cage is an anti-hero who claims, “I’m just getting started.”
Sausage Party
The first red band trailer blew me away (an R-rated animated movie about food’s feelings?!), and this second one just reaffirmed that I want to see this movie so bad. The new red band trailer is full of dirty, hilarious puns and the horror movie POV of the food we eat.
Sherlock
Benedict Cumberbatch is back as a scruffy version of Sherlock in the series 4 trailer.
Snowden
After the Citizen Four documentary, it was really just a matter of time before Hollywood took on a dramatized adaptation of the story. Joseph Gordon Levitt is enchanting and almost unrecognizable already as Edward Snowden.
Star Trek: Discovery
The latest Star Trek incarnation will debut early next year with Star Trek: Discovery. Not much is known about the show, but the first trailer showed footage of the new ship: the U.S.S. Discovery.
Suicide Squad
Plenty of trailers for Suicide Squad have been released, but this one – full of cleverly cut quotes and bizarre previews – is probably my favorite. Vulture said it best: it plays out like an extended music video.
Vikings
Ragnar Lothbrok is back for season 4 of Vikings, and it’s more bloody, brooding, and has more betrayal than ever.
The Walking Dead
Who was chosen at the end of season 6? Before telling us, The Walking Dead forces viewers to relive all of the most touching moments of the characters – one of whom will be killed in (presumably) the premiere episode of season 7.
Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot is awesome in Wonder Woman, which is already sizing up to be a triumphant, girl-power origin story.
