The Conjuring 2’s Success Leads to Greenlight of Spinoff Film The Nun

It’s a rare treat when a film emerges that both critics and horror fans alike can enjoy. Such was the case with 2013’s The Conjuring, which tells the story of famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren on one of their many cases.

The film raked in $318 million worldwide and led to the spinoff film Annabelle the following year. Sadly, the possessed doll flick was universally panned and proved not as successful as its predecessor.

Obviously, that didn’t deter Warner Bros., as they went through with The Conjuring 2 (earning them a successful $96 million worldwide less than a week after the U.S. premiere date). They even have plans to release Annabelle 2 next year.

Once Hollywood finds a formula that works, they like to stick to it. That appears to be the case here, as rumors of The Conjuring 3 are already in the works. A film that we know for sure we’ll be seeing soon is the spinoff The Nun. As you can guess from the title, the story will center around the demonic nun who makes an appearance in The Conjuring 2.

I have a feeling that the film will do well. After all, people love their demon flicks with a hefty dose of religion (thanks, The Exorcist!) Then again, it is possible that with the general dislike for Annabelle fans will skip this one. Even though they all take place in the same universe, audiences may prefer to stick to the main storyline.

What’s your opinion on The Conjuring cinematic universe? Will you be lining up to see The Nun? Let us know in the comments!
