New International Ghostbusters Trailer Is Best Yet, Thanks to Cast Chemistry

On Wednesday, we got the second U.S. trailer for Ghostbusters, which was considerably better than the first.

Today, the second international trailer was released and it’s blowing all previous trailers out of the water. Perhaps they should have led with a trailer like this, but at least we’re getting better trailers at all.

Check it out!

I talked about this film’s gorgeous visuals on Wednesday, and they’re still on full display here, but what this trailer does best, and why it’s easily the most entertaining trailer so far, is that it shows the chemistry among the cast.

We finally get some lines from Kate McKinnon, comedic timing is on point (“Kevin, can you answer the phone?” “I can’t. It’s in the fish tank.”), and the four actresses (plus Chris Hemsworth, of course) seem to have natural way of playing off one another.

So far one of the biggest concerns of the trailers has been the treatment of Leslie Jones’ character Patty. We’ll have to wait for the full movie to pass judgment, but at least we know she’ll be hilarious. Her and McKinnon easily have some of the best deliveries in the trailers.

Trailers are easy to judge, but it’s not always fair to do so. Spy, another Paul Feig movie, was one of the funniest movies of 2015, but it didn’t have the best marketing. Feig recently spoke about this in an interview:

“My movies, for some reason, are really hard to do trailers for, because my comedy all comes from context, really. I’m not the guy who’s like joke-joke-joke, and here’s a one-liner one-liner one-liner. I do have those, but you have to get to know the characters, you have to settle in with them to get to know their personalities, saying, ‘Oh, that’s funny because that character doesn’t normally do this.'”

There are some genuine laughs in these trailers so far, but it will take the full product to really see how it lands.

Ghostbusters, directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Cecily Strong, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Andy Garcia, is set to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
