First Wonder Woman Movie Footage Reveals an Epic Journey

Last night The CW hosted The Dawn of the Justice League with DC’s CCO Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith. There was a whole slew of DC expanded/cinematic universe (DCEU) clips and reveals, following the midseason return of The Flash.

One of those reveals happened to be the first footage from the upcoming Wonder Woman film and I am so there.

There are so many things I love about this video, from everyone talking about the character of Wonder Woman and really getting her, as well as the look of Gal Gadot as the Amazonian heroine.

Johns describes the basic plot of the film, which is that the Amazons of Paradise Island, where Wonder Woman was born and grew up, have abandoned protecting mankind because they don’t believe they’re worth it anymore. Diana, however, does believe in protecting them, and so she travels to our world on a journey.

Chris Pine, who plays Steve Trevor in the film, says that telling this story is “pivotal and important” as it’s about a “very powerful woman,” and I couldn’t agree more.

What makes this film even more exciting than it already is, is Patty Jenkins. Having a female director for a film like this is great and her clear admiration for the character bodes well. She explains: “The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is. Yet none of that negates any of her power.”

Hear, hear!

The only thing I’ll say about this footage is that has the same dreary color scheme as the rest of the DCEU and I hope it’s not an indication for the entire film. It’d be nice to see some brighter, more fun aesthetics out of these films.

Still, it’s Wonder Woman and it looks great and I already love the World War I setting, and I can’t wait.

Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis. It’s set to arrive on June 23, 2017.

What do you think of the footage? Are you looking forward to this film more now?

And be sure to check out more Wonder Woman here.
