Marvel Confirms Doctor Strange Cast, Including Hannibal Star

One of Marvel’s next big films, Doctor Strange, may have already begun production, but today the studio officially announced it and with it some interesting casting news.

Fan favorite Mads Mikkelsen (of Hannibal fame and also set for the first Star Wars spin-off film, Rogue One) is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

The press release does not reveal who Mikkelsen will be playing, although we already know Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton is the Ancient One, and Michael Stuhlbarg is Nicodemus West. We also have yet to hear confirmation of who Rachel McAdams will be playing.

Mikkelsen is an enormously talented and varied actor who has already taken on many different types of roles in his career. He will only add depth and versatility to this movie, which brims with more and more talent every passing day.

Marvel states that Doctor Strange “is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.”

This particular film introduces the new character of neurosurgeon Stephen Strange who discovers the world of magic and alternate dimensions after an accident.

It’s set to to come out on November 4, 2016, with Scott Derrickson directing and Jon Spaihts penning the script. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Are you excited to see Mikkelsen in a Marvel movie? Who do you think he’ll be playing? Sound off in the comments!
