Hollywood is full of dads. Some are a bit ridiculous but devoted like Homer Simpson, some are a bit of a nerd like George McFly, and some cut off their son’s hand like Darth Vader. Then there are others that really embody the great dad traits in Hollywood who we particularly love. To celebrate Father’s day, we’re going to share some of our favorite fictional dads and their great traits!
A Sense of Adventure: Henry Jones, Sr. (Indiana Jones)
While his son might describe him as “the professor the students hope they don’t get”, Henry proves himself to be quite the smart adventurer in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He’s able to hold his own against his more reckless son and has some great moments himself.
Remember when he blows up the truck full of Nazis? Exactly. He might seem uptight at times, especially with how often he criticizes or is shocked by Indiana’s lifestyle, but we still wouldn’t mind going on an adventure to defeat Nazis with him.
A Big Heart: Joe West (The Flash)
Joe West has quickly become a character on The Flash we can’t imagine our lives without. He’s funny, he’s dependable, he’s brave, he’s everything that a dad should be. And he raised Barry Allen on his own, which is no small feat.
There were multiple times he tugged at our heartstrings in the first season, like when Barry told him he was a great father or when Iris found out he had been keeping Barry’s identity as the Flash from her. He really is at the heart and soul of this great new series and has set a standard for TV dads everywhere now.
Stability: Michael Bluth (Arrested Development)
What, you thought we were going to say Bluth, Sr.? No way.
As the straight man of the crazy Bluth family in the fan-favorite Arrested Development, Michael Bluth can often be overlooked. However, his dry sense of humor and the fact that he typically can’t see what’s going on around him really does make him a funny character.
But it’s the devotion and support he shows to his son George Michael Bluth that has him on this list.
Cooking Skills: Bob Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)
Nothing beats a dad who can cook. If you make him a dad who has his own restaurant and makes puns out of his burger specials? We’re doubly sold.
Sure, he makes his kids help out in the restaurant but it could be worse, right? He also supports them unwaveringly, even when he continually says “oh my god” in that way we love. No matter what his kids get up to, he’ll be right by their side, like when he and Louise wander off in the museum during the field trip episode.
A Sense of Humor: Daniel Hillard (Mrs. Doubtfire)
Okay, so he probably goes a little too far but you’re not going to tell us that he’s not hilarious and devoted, are you? That excessive make-up, that ridiculous accent, the cooking scene? Yup, that’s what we thought.
He clearly loves his family and he’s talented at comedy (which he should be, given he’s a voice actor). We love watching him, both in comedic scenes and heartfelt ones as well.
Heroics: Bob Parr (The Incredibles)
Not only is he a super dad (literally), but his whole family is made up of superheroes too! The dad from Pixar’s The Incredibles is great for so many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that he has superhuman strength. Dropped something behind your dresser that you can’t reach? Don’t worry, dad’s got this one.
He’s also loving, fun, and will definitely make your life more adventurous.

Role Model: Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
While perhaps not in the same vein as the rest of the fathers on our list, there’s no one who can deny the staying power of Gregory Peck’s Atticus Finch, both as a character and a father. Everyone who knows the story of To Kill a Mockingbird learns from him, but no one so much as his two children, Jem and Scout.
His integrity, bravery, and moral compass are what make him a great role model and one of the best dads in Hollywood history.
