It’s no secret that Marvel’s Black Widow is one of the strongest characters in their movie universe. Scarlett Johansson has given great performances in numerous films as the Russian spy turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent turned Avenger.
Unfortunately, while we don’t bring news of a solo Black Widow film finally happening, we do bring an awesome fan-made video showcasing how great a solo film could be.
For his final project in his After Effects class, Christopher Hayley made a video of the opening credits for a Black Widow film. Watch it below!
The most immediate thing you might think upon watching it is James Bond. From the music (“Sour Times” by Portishead), to the art, it has a serious spy feel to it which fits with Marvel’s pattern of solo films. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a 70s political thriller, Guardians of the Galaxy is a space opera, it only makes sense to have Black Widow’s film fit an appropriate theme too.
Hayley put a lot of thought into the plot and team for the film, as you can see. Here’s his official description:
“Cut off one head, two more shall take it’s place. . . For this speculative title sequence of a Black Widow film I decided Black Widow’s villain would be. . . Black Widow. Yelena Belova, to be specific. Belova believes herself to be the superior Black Widow, and in some ways she is right. Swift and ruthless, Belova is the most talented assassin to graduate from the Red Room–and now she is Hydra’s most deadly weapon. At Belova’s side is a super-soldier of her own, Alexi Shostakov–the Red Guardian, who also happens to be Natasha’s former lover. When the new heads of Hydra make a play for the power of the infinity stones it is up to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top agent to stop them.”
He’s cast Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) as Yelena Belova and Samuli Edelmann (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) as the Red Guardian. He also seems to want to cross over the TV and movie universes more by casting Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen.
In this dream world, Michael Giacchino does the score, J.J. Abrams is a producer, and Damon Lindelof co-writes the script with director Brad Bird. That’s a team we can definitely get behind.
