Meet Our New and Brilliant Young Mutants

The next iteration in the X-Men franchise is currently in pre-production, anticipating its May 27, 2016 release. While some familiar faces from X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past are returning, the cast is mutating to include beloved characters from the comics.

That’s right, X-Men: Apocalypse will include Jean Grey, Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops, and Storm.

Director Bryan Singer revealed on Twitter that not only will these three characters be part of the next chapter, but they’ll be played by Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life), and Alexandra Shipp (House of Anubis), respectively.

Though plot details are unknown at this time, we know that we can expect a reaction to the events in Days of Future Past. With Singer at the helm, the next installment of the X-Men series sees the mutants in the 1980s, facing off against Oscar Isaac as the titular villain Apocalypse.

In the comics, Scott Summers and Jean Grey were part of the original first class, so we’re excited to see them join the team. It makes sense to introduce them after the events in Days of Future Past. Singer retconned the X-Men story, bringing these characters back to life and introducing them now lets audiences know they survived. It’s especially exciting to see Scott Summers join the bill, because we saw his brother Alex a.k.a. Havoc in both First Class and Days of Future Past.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016, and stars Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. The cast also boasts Nicholas Hoult, Channing Tatum, Evan Peters, Hugh Jackman, Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Alexandra Shipp.
