Why Is Batgirl Wearing Doc Martens?

The New 52 overhaul for DC’s Batgirl introduces a new life for Barbara Gordon and a new black and white statue for Babs’ fans.

The New 52 Issue #35 features Barbara moving to Gotham’s trendy neighborhood Burnside and starting over, including a new costume. She makes a new costume for herself, utilizing the boutiques and vintage stores in Burnside. Her 2014 redesign features yellow Doc Martens, a leather jacket, and a snap-on-snap-off cape.

With a myriad of designs in the Batman Black and White statue line, it’s surprising that there has not been a Batgirl statue yet. But, if DC Collectibles was waiting for the right design, they’ve hit gold. The statue matches Batgirl’s new costume design at a One:12 scale. Irene Matar, the artist who sculpted DC Collectibles’ Batman: The Animated Series line, also sculpted Batgirl.

Geoff Johns, DC’s Chief Creative Officer, and co-publisher Jim Lee both posted preview of this astounding statue on Instagram. The Black and White Batgirl statue is currently available at Entertainment Earth, where in-stock orders $79 or more receive Free Shipping.
