awesome-mix-vol-1

We’re hooked on a feeling – and that feeling is of absolute joy! Awesome Mix Vol. 1 from Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to cassette! Now you can be Star-Lord, with a handy cassette player at your side to accompany you through your many heroic journeys!

Yes, Guardians of the Galaxy was a smash hit at the box-office – in fact, it is the highest-grossing film of the year. The film’s iconic soundtrack was, if not equally as successful, pretty darn close. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and is currently the 10th largest selling album of 2014. It has been available as a digital album, a CD, a vinyl and even a Deluxe Edition, but until now, there was no actual cassette like the mix tape from the film.

Marvel and Hollywood Records announced that a limited edition The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 Soundtrack will be issued on cassette on November 17th. (Handy, isn’t it, how the DVD and Blu-ray release of the film will follow suit on December 9th?) This cassette will be available only to independent retailers partnered with Record Store Day. The cassette will be the first audio cassette released by Disney since 2003, and it will only be available until December 21st, or until supplies last.

The cassette will even come with the classic mix tape cover art, with all the song titles written in pen. Director James Gunn has confirmed he’s already thinking about Awesome Mix Vol. 2 which will be included in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, opening on July 27th, 2017.
