New on Pottermore – Celestina Warbeck
Continuing the release of new content related to the wizarding world on Pottermore, J.K. Rowling released a profile on interationally-acclaimed magical musician Celestina Warbeck. The singing sorceress is a household name in the wizarding world and Molly Weasley’s favorite singer. The short profile gives a brief overview of Celestina Warbeck’s life and personality.
In the beginning stages of Harry Potter’s epic story, Rowling wrote a series of ‘Daily Prophet’ stories which Celestina the singing sensation appeared in. This short series was produced for a short-lived fan club run by Bloomsbury Publishing.
Rowling revealed that Celestina Warbeck is one of her favorite ‘offstage’ characters despite never meeting Warbeck in any of the Potter novels. She also stated that Warbeck resembles Welsh singer Shirley Bassey in both looks and style.
The Pottermore profile for Celestina Warbeck was released on August 18, which happens to be the musician’s birth date. The singer was a half-blooded Gryffindor (wizard father, Muggle mother) with a wand of larch and phoenix feather. She married thrice and had one son.
The profile goes on to describe Warbeck’s early life, including her mother’s desire for a wizarding stage school. Rowling lists a special skill as the ability to drown out a chorus of banshees. Later in the piece, Rowling says that Warbeck would appear with a chorus of banshees. Warbeck also worked philanthropically, raising funds for St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Celestina Warbeck’s best-known songs include ‘You Charmed the Heart Right Out of Me,’ ‘A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love,’ ‘Beat Back Those Bludgers, Boys, and Chuck That Quaffle Here,’ and ‘You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart.’
