D’oh! Welcome to Springfield, IL, home of The Simpsons. This insanely detailed Lego replication of the Simpson family’s hometown comes to you from builder Matt De Lanoy. Built almost entirely during a three month period, April to June, this immaculate cityscape was taken to the Chicago Brickworld convention in June.
De Lanoy said he knew he would build the whole of Springfield when the small line of Lego Simpsons was originally announced. Coming after his recreation of New New York from Futurama, Springfield seemed an obvious next choice. Pulling elements from the tv series and the Tapped Out game.
De Lanoy neither knows, nor wants to know, the final count of bricks used in this display. “I suspect that if I were to know the piece count, then I could get a rough estimate of how much money overall I’d spent on it — and that’s just something I don’t want to know,” he said.
The overall detail shown to this exhibit astounds all fans of both Lego and The Simpsons. De Lanoy knew every minute component, from the color of Flanders’ windows to the sliding door and Squishee machine at Kwik-E-Mart. Not even the Simpsons’ House Set was good enough for this carefully crafted reproduction. De Lanoy used the original set as a reference point before building his own more accurate Simpsons’ house.
Homer and his family would be glad to stroll through this epic recreation of their hometown.
